Travelling to the town of Postavy
03/29/2023

The town of Postavy is 190 kilometres north of Minsk, the first mention of which dates back to 1409. The population of the town today is about 20,000 people. The historical richness and unique architectural monuments are an attraction both for Belarusians and tourists.

A landmark of the town is the Tyzengauz Palace, which now is the location of the central district hospital. The palace was built at the end of the 19th century. The internal layout has suffered a lot, but the external appearance of the building has been preserved. There is an old park with the original layout, canals and linden alleys near the palace. Next to the palace there is a monument to the famous Belarusian scientist Konstantin Tyzengauz, who built the palace.

Another landmark in the city is St. Anthony of Padua church. It is one of the most beautiful in our country. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The pseudo-Gothic architecture of the church perfectly harmonises with the green landscape and the river. It is also worth mentioning the Orthodox St. Nicholas’ Church, which was built at the end of the 19th century.

The historic buildings in the city centre are of great interest to tourists. The preserved buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries such as the “Craftsman's House”, the “Doctor's House” and other buildings in the central square were designed by the Italian architect Giuseppe di Sacco. The 19th-century watermill, which is situated near the town centre by the bridge over the river, is also an essential attraction for those who visit the town.

In the town's local history museum, you can learn more about the history of the region and the life of the famous family.

Every year, the folk music festival “Zvinyats tsimbaly i garmonik” is held in Postavy. Folklore and recreation enthusiasts from all over the country come to the festival with great pleasure.

Admittedly, it's sad to leave Postavy. There's something in this peaceful and remarkably beautiful town that attracts everyone. History? The architecture? The people?

A contemporary of Konstantin Tyzengauz, the writer and memoirist Gabriella Puzynina once described Postavy as follows: “If someone asked me where there is happiness on earth, I would say that it is in Postavy...”.
