The place and date are symbolic for both Belarusians and Russians. During the Great Patriotic War, about 8 million civilians and almost 900 thousand prisoners of war ended up on the territory of Belarus. In almost every area, the Nazis organized concentration camps, ghettos and prisons. Minsk was under Nazi control for 1,100 days. When the Red Army troops liberated the Belarusian capital, it was practically destroyed. In the city center, only 70 houses survived, and out of 250 thousand residents, only 50 thousand survived. Search operations are still underway in Belarus. Over the past few years, dozens of new mass shooting sites have been found. The concert featured both famous songs from the Great Patriotic War and a synthesis of new musical compositions about the war and Victory. Unique newsreel footage was also shown – archival evidence of those terrible events.
